Book Summary

My class recently read HOLES, written by Louis Sachar. This book got my attention with the friendship between Stanley and Zero. The setting of the book is at Camp Green Lake and in the mountains.
There are many characters in this book but Stanley and Zero are my favorites. Stanley is a friendly kid and likes to make people happy and have fun. Stanley is a middle-schooler that was being picked on because he was overweight. Stanley’s troubles started when a bully threw his book in the toilet. One day he was walking home and a pair of shoes fell from the sky. Stanley ran home, the police saw him and he got arrested for stealing those shoes. That is how Stanley got to the camp where he had to dig holes for his punishment. Zero was also at the camp, but ended up there differently.
Zero is a quiet kid that comes from a homeless family. This led Zero to camp green lake. Everyone thinks he is dumb because he is so quiet, but he is actually very good at math. Zero can’t read or write, but wants to learn. Zero wanted Stanley to teach him how to read and write.

Stanley and Zero became friends at camp green lake. One day Stanley got in trouble and was sent to the Warden’s office, when Stanley returned Zero had dug Stanley’s hole. Thats when Stanley came up with a trade idea. The trade is, Zero digs Stanley’s hole and Stanley teaches Zero how to read.I like both Zero and Stanley but I mostly like Stanley because he's loyal with his friends and family. Zero is a good kid that practices his reading skills at the camp.
I would recommend this book. The friendship in this story is the important part of this book. Friendships will change your lifestyle. This is the friendship you want that was in my summary. You can also help your friend or anyone with their weakness, then that will make your life better.
